Area to Visit
Zanzibar, Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara National Park and Tarangire National Park
Fly from Zanzibar to the Serengeti and step straight into the heart of northern Tanzania’s safari circuit. Two days in the Serengeti give ample time to cover its plains and river valleys in search of predators and migrating herds. Continue to Ngorongoro for a full day inside the crater before overnighting in the surrounding highlands.
The route then turns to Lake Manyara, a compact park rich in birdlife and known for its tree-climbing lions, with an overnight in nearby Karatu. The tour ends in Tarangire, best known for its elephant herds and baobab tree, before a transfer to the airport for your return flight to Zanzibar.
Full Itinerary
- Day 1: Zanzibar - Serengeti National Park
We will you up from your address and transfer you to Zanzibar International Airport, from where you will board a chartered flight to Serengeti National Park. On arrival, our driver guide will be there to meet and briefs you about the whole program before venturing out on the first game drive. Game drive continues till late morning and you will be on your way to the lodge for checking in and eat lunch.
Following lunch and a brief rest at the lodge, we leave for another round of game drive, exploring different sections of the Serengeti – a game reserve famous for resident lion prides, cheetah territories, and large herds of zebra, wildebeest, and countless other terrestrial wild animals. As evening approaches, we return to the lodge for dinner and a good night sleep.
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
- Day 2: Full Day - Serengeti
Today is devoted fully for an all-day game drive across different sections of the park. The timing of your trip may also align with seasonal movements of the Great Migration, when hundreds of thousands of wildebeest and zebra cross into or out of the Serengeti ecosystem. Even outside migration months, predators remain active and opportunities to see predators are frequent.
With a prepared picnic carried by your driver guide, lunch is again taken in the field. These long hours on the move mean you spend the bulk of the day inside the park, adjusting routes based on wildlife activity. The afternoon often brings sightings of hippo pools and crocodiles along riverbanks. As daylight fades you return to the lodge, where you have time to relax before dinner. By now the Serengeti has offered both the intensity of close encounters and the quieter satisfaction of simply observing wildlife at its own pace.
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
- Day 3: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater
An early departure from the lodge begins the road trip toward Ngorongoro. The route out of Serengeti doubles as another game drive, since wildlife continues to appear throughout the morning. You eventually exit through the Naabi Hill Gate and make your way toward the highlands.
You arrive at the crater rim around mid-morning and descend directly into the floor of Ngorongoro Crater for a half-day game drive. This caldera is known for its concentrated wildlife, including black rhino, large bull elephants, and dense populations of lions. Because the area is enclosed by steep walls, game viewing here is quite different from the Serengeti, giving the impression of a natural amphitheater of wildlife. A picnic lunch is enjoyed in one of the designated sites, typically overlooking a lake. In the late afternoon you ascend back to the rim and proceed to your accommodation in the highlands. Overnight stays here are cool and quiet, offering a different atmosphere compared to the open savannah of the Serengeti.
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
- Day 4: Lake Manyara National Park
Following an early morning breakfast, it’s time for Lake Manyara. This compact reserve lies along the base of the Rift Valley escarpment and provides a contrasting experience to the wide plains. On entry, dense groundwater forests dominate, with baboons and blue monkeys visible near the roadside. Further inside, open grasslands and the lake itself create habitat for elephant herds, buffalo, and an impressive array of birdlife. The park is particularly noted for its flocks of flamingos that feed in the shallows, along with the chance of spotting tree-climbing lions, although sightings are not guaranteed.
Lunch is arranged inside the park, with the afternoon reserved for additional game viewing and bird watching near the lake shore. As evening approaches, you continue to the nearby town of Karatu, where your lodge provides dinner and overnight rest. The shift from wildlife viewing during the day to the relaxed, small-town setting of Karatu offers balance before the final leg of the tour.
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
- Day 5: Tarangire National Park and Return to Zanzibar
An early start takes you from Karatu to Tarangire National Park, a reserve known for its high concentration of elephants and iconic baobab trees. Tarangire’s varied landscape supports large herds of wildebeest, zebra, and buffalo, while predators such as lion and leopard are regularly observed. The Tarangire River remains a permanent water source, drawing wildlife throughout the dry season and providing consistent game viewing opportunities.
You spend the morning and early afternoon exploring the park, pausing for a picnic lunch in a designated area. By late afternoon you exit the park and drive toward Arusha or Kilimanjaro International Airport. Depending on your schedule, you either connect with a flight back to Zanzibar or continue toward your international departure home. This final day provides one more set of encounters with wildlife before the transition back to coastal life, closing an itinerary that links the Indian Ocean to the heart of Tanzania’s northern safari circuit.
