- Day 2: Tarangire National Park
After the Serengeti, Tarangire has the greatest concentration of wild animals as well as avian species in Tanzania During the dry season, the Tarangire River turns into a magnet for thirsty wildlife, making it a perfect place to spot them with ease while on a game drive. Large herds of elephants and migratory wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, impala, Thomson gazelle, hartebeest, and eland are some of the common animals to be seen, and not surprisingly the predators follow.
This is also the one place in Tanzania where dry-country antelope such as oryx and gerenuk are regularly spotted. Tarangire is also known for its iconic baobab trees and its breathtaking views of the Maasai Steppe and the mountains to the south. Located just a few hours’ drive from Arusha city, Tarangire is a popular stop for safaris traveling through the northern circuit on their way to Ngorongoro and the Serengeti. The park extends into two game-controlled areas and the wildlife are allowed to move freely throughout. Away from the busier areas, Tarangire National Park will promise its visitors wilderness and adventure.
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
- Day 3: Lake Manyara National Park
Lake Manyara, despite its relatively understated reputation compared to other northern circuit destinations, is home to a remarkable array of both permanent and migratory wildlife that find refuge in its diverse ecosystems. The park’s main attractions include its superb birdlife, the famous tree-climbing lions, and the hippos wallowing in its alkaline waters alongside flamingos, which can be observed up close, more so than at many other destinations.
The park is dotted with acacia trees and characterized by open savannas and reflective waters, nestled at the foot of the Great Rift Valley’s Western escarpment. It’s easy to spot zebras and giraffes resting lazily on the open grasslands, their ears pricked for any sign of movement from the woodlands where elusive leopards and tree-loving lions are often found.
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
- DAY 4 & 5: SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK
The vast, rolling savannah of the Serengeti National Park is known as the hub of the largest great migration of wild animal of Earth, also known as the great wildebeest migration. The landscape is characterized by vast stretches of savannah interspersed with acacia trees and riverine woodlands. Wildlife can be seen along the banks of the Mara River and you can view the annual spectacle of the half a million-migrating wildebeest.
Commonly spotted wildlife include: a multitude of plains game such as buffalo, zebra, gazelles, impala, giraffe as well as lion, cheetah, and leopard. Adventure enthusiasts can look forward to bird watching, hot air ballooning, game safaris, and guided bush walks. The world’s famous animal migration of the wildebeests, of which there are more than 1.5 million, is the Serengeti’s biggest drawcard to most visitors to this national park. Sightings of the legendary African Big Five, along with a remarkable variety of other wildlife and avian species, make Serengeti the centre stage for an unforgettable adventure.
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
- DAY 6: NGORONGORO CRATER
Ngorongoro Crater is the largest unbroken caldera in the world, and is part of the volcanic highlands along the western flank of the Great Rift Valley. The crater is unique for hosting the highest density of lions in the world, including the unique black-maned lions.
It is an incredible sanctuary for wildlife where the dramas of life on the African plains are played out each day by a diverse assemblage of large mammals – wildebeest, zebra, lion and rhino – in a primeval ‘garden of Eden’. Outside of the crater, a similar drama continues in a more spread-out manner with Masai herdsmen thrown into the mix.
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
- Day 7 - 9: Fly to Zanzibar
Two days in Stone | Town 3 days in Nungwi
A beach holiday in Zanzibar offers not only a perfect tropical escapade but also a lifestyle that contrasts starkly with Tanzania’s mainland safari experience. The island is enveloped in an exotic blend of warmth, humidity, and the aromatic scent of spices, creating a truly romantic atmosphere. Stone Town, on the other hand, is a vibrant hub that perfectly balances bustling markets, historical sites, miles of stunning beaches, and fascinating spice plantations, all just a short drive away. Its unique charm keeps visitors exploring at every turn.
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
- DAY 10 -13: NUNGWI BEACH
Nungwi is the go-to beach destination for a variety of incredible water sports, particularly kitesurfing, thanks to its favorable wind conditions. The beach is located at the northern tip of Zanzibar and is an exquisite locale celebrated for its pristine natural surroundings. Nungwi ranks as one of the top beaches in Zanzibar, renowned for its dazzling white sand, azure ocean waters, and vibrant coral reefs.
Moreover, it distinguishes itself with a moderate tide, allowing visitors to indulge in water activities throughout the day. While Nungwi is known for its lively charm, offering a greater focus on water sports and nightlife compared to Kendwa, it still retains beautiful. If you’re seeking relaxation, head to its most northern stretch, where you will rarely encounter tourists.
