The day begins with an early morning pick-up from your hotel in Arusha after breakfast. From there, we drive for approximately two hours, passing through local farms, villages, and highlands before arriving at Lake Manyara National Park.

After a quick check-in at the park gate, your game drive kicks off. At first glance, the park feels like a hidden jungle, an obvious contrast to other national parks and game reserves in northern circuit. Beyond the forest, the scenery opens to acacia woodlands and grassy floodplains leading to the alkaline lake, where seasonal flamingo gatherings paint the shores pink. The park is best known for its tree-climbing lions, an unusual behavior not commonly seen elsewhere. While spotting them isn’t guaranteed, the possibility adds a layer of excitement to the game drive.

Expect to see elephants, buffalo, zebras, wildebeests, and giraffes, often clustered near the shores of the lake. Troops of blue monkeys and baboons, some of the largest in Africa, thrive in the lush forests. A drive near Msasa Picnic Site offers breathtaking views over the park and lake, making it a prime spot for a midday break. After a picnic lunch, continue your game drive.

As the afternoon light fades, it’s time to head back to Arusha. Your driver will ensure a comfortable ride, dropping you off at your hotel or AICC by early evening. While Manyara may be smaller than its famous counterparts, its diversity, unique geographic features, and fascinating wildlife encounters make a day trip here a lifetime safari experience.
